The Leonardo in Sandton is the tallest building in Africa
Look out your window, there’s a whole lot of building happening out there. If you’re in or near Sandton, you’ll see the cranes. But one building stands out among the others, and you don’t have to be in the hood to see it. The Leonardo near Sandton-City Mall , Nelson Mandela Square is the tallest building not just in Johannesburg, but Africa. Developed by Legacy Hotels, the R3-billion development incorporates high-end apartments and penthouses. It will have offices, an upmarket hotel, a crèche, a spa, a restaurant and speciality shops. I’m sure we’ll find out more over the next few months, as it’s due to open at the end of the first half of the year. It overtakes The Leonardo is set to be 233m, overtaking the Carlton Centre at 223m. Ponte Towers is 172.8m.
