Mr Souvlaki is worth a visit for tasty, fresh Greek food
If you feel like some tasty, fresh Greek food you really don’t have to go far. Mr Souvlaki in the Post Office Centre is a welcome addition to the new restaurants that have opened in the neighbourhood, especially in that centre. The feel is more about casual dining than creating a ‘taverna’ environment with plates and all things Greek; it’s about an easy access spot with a fairly concise menu and your favourite tasty Greek options.
We were lucky enough to try a range of their dips which were very “flavour rich” and a total win over lunch. Bursting with flavour but not overly rich, it included tzatziki, hummus, tirosalata (their signature dip with creamy feta blended with peppers and mild chilli), melitzanosalata and taramosalata. There was no beetroot hummus on the day, so that’s for next time.
Another standout favourite were the falafels in the vegan salad. Again, not too dense and rich but crisp and light and definitely better than many other falafels around, which are often on the heavy side.
Turns out the most popular dishes on the menu include the chicken and halloumi gyro, and “the Greek” which is lamb or beef or chicken with thinly sliced onion and tomato, tzatziki, stuffed with chips the Greek way.
The restaurant is big in the home delivery market in the area, so it’s worth remembering. We’ll be heading back for dips at the very least, in a heartbeat.
