Happy Island Waterworld, the biggest water park in the country
It took a year-and-a-half to build and it cost half a billion rand. Happy Island Waterworld in Muldersdrift is the biggest water park in South Africa, and you can feel it. It’s larger-than-life with more features than any kid or adult could possibly hope for. That’s if you don’t mind queuing on a busy day. It’s not the most manageable. If you prefer a contained space where you can see your kids easily, then maybe this isn’t for you. But if you have kids who are able to pretty much look after themselves, this could be your place. For adults who love to play, this is your place.
Apart from many water features, super tubes, a spray park and slides (some of them helluva tall) there’s at least one trampoline. You can buy food but there’s nothing particularly healthy. Things like burgers & chips & ice cream. And at times it’s hard to find something to drink. It’s worth noting that you need to hire a tube when you come in (yes, in addition to the current R199 per adult and R99 per child). They say prices will increase at the end of February after the pre-launch.
You’re allowed to bring camp chairs, umbrellas and gazebos into the park. There are also two of the biggest wave pools in the country, but the day we went at least one was closed for maintenance.
