a kids wonderland in Midrand: Hyto Tyto
One of the challenges of urban parenting is where to take the kids to play. So to help out, we’re posting a short series on some of the places in & around the neighbourhood, to take kids. This includes some destinations beyond the area because we know that (sometimes) it’s just worth that extra drive.
Let’s start off with a bang. Hyto Tyto has become popular in a short space of time. It’s in Midrand, but it’s pretty much like a kids’ dreamland. There’s an expansive outside and inside so kids can run between the two. And once you’ve paid to enter, you can say as long as you want. The day we went was a bit cloudy, so the photo’s don’t do the place justice. But here you go …
Inside there are slides and areas to climb and hide. Outside there are bridges, a roundabout, a BMX bike track and go-karts just for a start. There’s a train, zipline, and a huge jumping pillow as well as a fairy garden and a mud kitchen. It feels like it goes on and on…
What is noticeable is the helpers are involved, which is a win. There’s a wide range of activities so it suits little toddlers and bigger kids.
Monday it’s closed, and Tuesday to Friday kids are charged R75. Saturday and Sunday it’s R110. This is for kids aged two to 13 and entitles you to stay and play for the entire day. There’s also a more-than-decent restaurant. www.hytotyto.co.za
We’d love to hear from you about some of the places you take kids.
